The Historical Mansions of Newport, RI

As the warmer weather approaches, it is the perfect time to plan a trip to Newport, RI.  One of the famous, must see tourists sites are the famed Newport Mansions.  Lands End Limousines proudly shares a brief overview of some of the mansions you can tour.

The Elms
Rosecliff
Bellevue Avenue is home to most of the beautiful mansions. The first house to be built on Bellevue Avenue is  Chateau Sur Mer.  The Elms is located on Bellevue Avenue close to the center of town and is easily accessible by foot. Isaac Bell House has been recently restored and is one of the best surviving examples of shingle style architecture in this country.  A landmark of the Gothic Revival style is the Kingscote Mansion, also located on Bellevue Avenue. The Vanderbilt family built a home utilizing 500,00 cubic feet of marble in its construction.  The home is aptly named Marble House.  Known for  hosting most of the lavish parties of the Gilded Age, Rosecliff mansion still hosts weddings and events today. If you're interested in art, Rough Point holds one of the area's most remarkable collections of private art.  The home once belonged to American tobacco heiress Doris Duke and some of her personal items and furnishings can still be viewed.

Goodbye to Salas Restaurant

Salas restaurant has been a fixture in downtown Newport since 1956.  It is a family style Italian restaurant which serves Asian food and seafood as well.

Salas has been a favorite spot for families to relax and spend time together.  A sign hangs in the entry which says that unattended children "will be given an espresso and a free puppy." This is an example of the casual atmosphere which can be readily enjoyed by families.

Lands End Limousines would like to thank Salas for many years of great service and delicious food. Your wonderful restaurant will be missed!

How To Choose A Limousine Service

The days of limousines being just for the ultra rich or big events are over.  Nowadays, people rent limousines for travel to and from airports, girls/guys night out, birthday parties, and so on.  There are many choices of limousine services as well as types of limos.  Lands End Limousines would like to share some tips on how to choose the best service for you.

A large part of the limousine experience is the customer service you receive. You want your driver to be professional, courteous, reliable, and knowledgeable about the area. These same attributes should be found when you call the limo office.  Look for polite and knowledgeable office staff who provide stellar customer service.  This is a good indication that the driver is expected to deliver the same level of service.

Look for a local company. There are many large limo websites that will take your information and match you with a company which may or may not be local to you.  This may mean additional travel charges and drivers unfamiliar with the territory. The distance may also prevent you from being able to view the limo prior to the rental.

It is important to understand all rates before you put down a deposit.  Again, good customer service will help ensure that all fees are explained and understood.  You will want to ask if there is a minimum hourly rental, hourly overtime rates, travel time charges, or additional fees for extra pick ups and/or drop offs. Also inquire if there is a different rate for peak rental times or different pricing for different types of limos.  Also find out if the driver's gratuity is included in the quoted price.

Traveling in a limousine should be an enjoyable experience. Ask questions and shop around to ensure that you receive the service you deserve.
