Holidays at the Newport Mansions

As we feel the brisk New England air, our minds turn towards all of the upcoming holidays. This is a spectacular time to spend in our little slice of the world. The leaves are changing colors and the view is breathtaking! Fields of pumpkins, cornstalks, hay, and mums join the trees in making Rhode Island one of the most beautiful places to visit during the Autumn season.

Along with hayrides, candy apples, and pumpkin picking, Newport is also beginning to gear up for Christmas and New Years Eve. They may be a few months away, but the Newport Mansions will dazzle you with their Christmas displays starting in November so we want to give you time to plan!

The Breakers, The Elms, and Marble House will be dressed in silver and gold and will offer music and tours to help usher in the holiday spirit. From The Preservation Society of Newport County:

"Thousands of poinsettia plants, spectacular evergreens, trees, wreaths and fresh flowers and 19th century style ornaments turn the houses and their grounds into a Christmas wonderland.  Dining tables set with period silver and china and mannequins dressed in authentic costumes complete the elegant setting.

All three houses will be decorated and open daily for tours from Saturday, November 17 through Monday, January 1, 2013.   The Breakers opens daily at 9 a.m., The Elms and Marble House open at 10 a.m.   The last tour admission at all three houses is at 4 p.m., and the houses & grounds close at 5 p.m.

Please note, on Christmas Eve, December 24, the last tour admission at all 3 houses will be at 3 p.m.  Houses are closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day."
